PODGY Sgt Andy Sharp looks like he might need arrest — as the UK’s tubbiest cop. But he was up to the task of marshalling crowds when he went stout and about at Sunday’s Help for Heroes charity bike ride. He even found time to chew the fat with cycling hero Mark Cavendish as the Tour de France champ pulled over in his Jaguar in Blackheath, South East London. And last month he ensured campaigners didn’t make a meal of a central London march against NHS cuts. Sources told The Sun Sgt Sharp is the biggest copper pounding the beat. But he could have to shape up if new rules come in.

Alex Kingston: Matt Smith was right to quit Doctor

ALEX Kingston has said that Doctor Who star Matt Smith has made the right decision to quit — before he gets typecast. The actress, who plays the Time Lord's love interest River Song, said: "You have to move on, otherwise it becomes very difficult." Matt, who became the 11th incarnation of the Doctor in 2009, will leave the BBC sci-fi show at the end of the year. She also revealed that she knew Matt, 30, was going to quite before it was announced. She told The One Show last night: "I wasn't surprised, because he and I had a chat. "At some stage, you have to move on and we did discuss when would be the right time in a young actor's career if they were very associated with a particular role."

Russell Brand: I never cheated on Katy... I loved being married Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/4958064/Russell-Brand-I-never-cheated-on-Katy-I-loved-being-married.html#ixzz2VSqw8MAp

Despite his past battles with sex addiction, the comedian says he always steers clear of temptation when he’s in a relationship. And Russell is adamant he was faithful to pop star Katy throughout their 14-month union, which ended in December 2011. He told Esquire mag: “When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think. “But it's going to be hard if I go into a monogamous relationship. “I live a life where I have a lot of freedom, so if I meet someone and I go, ‘Right let's be monogamous,’ that's a f****** change. “But I tried it and I loved it.” Russell – spotted out in LA yesterday wearing a scarf around his head – says he’s still fond of his former wife. He revealed: “I really think she's a lovely beautiful person. “It's just hard isn't it? She's got a lot of options, I've got a lot of options, so you've got to really, really want it (to make marriage work).” Explaining the reasons behind their split, he added: “Some of it's the fame, but I think getting married is... you've got a whole other person that you've got to make as important as you.” Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/4958064/Russell-Brand-I-never-cheated-on-Katy-I-loved-being-married.html#ixzz2VSqyQ75B

It’s Moy way or the highway

DAVID MOYES has told Manchester United’s stars: You will have to work for me SEVEN days a week. The incoming Old Trafford boss has outlined his United blueprint for the first time since taking the job last month. Scot Moyes will insist on a ferocious work ethic as the champions defend their Premier League title next term. And he is adamant that young players will be given a fair crack of the whip and a chance to prove their worth. The ex-Everton boss said: “You have to earn your stars when dealing with players. It’s up to you to show what you’ve got. “If you want to work for me you need to be able to work seven days a week. I need to know my staff will give me that effort. “Discipline has to come from within for players. And I’m a great believer in giving young players opportunities. “Developing players mentally is very important, but it needs to fit with what the players want. “You have to keep your eye on what the industry is doing — what’s new. And your recruiting as a manager can determine whether you keep your job. “Everton needed a new direction when I came in and, as a coach, you have to find ways you can keep developing.” Moyes’ predecessor Alex Ferguson ruled the roost at Old Trafford and had total control over all first-team affairs. And the former Preston chief insists that is the ONLY way to work at a top-level football club. He added: “It’s a great honour to be appointed at Manchester United. “But don’t assume your board of directors always have the answers. You need to influence.”

Wenger contract boost

ARSENE WENGER has received the full backing of the Arsenal board — in a move that suggests he is set to sign a new long-term deal. Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis spoke to SunSport and hinted the Frenchman will be offered an extension on his contract, which runs out next summer. He said: “What I really don’t want to do is have a public discussion about Arsene’s contractual position. “That would be a daily, weekly fixture on the public coverage if you start getting into that. What I will say is that we think we have got a fantastic manager. “We hope that he wants to do what he is doing for the long term. I believe he does. “I think he is still ambitious, still driven and sees the potential of the club as he looks forward and I think he is very excited by that. “We have a great relationship and he has a great relationship with the board as well. “So, quietly and at the right time I think we will make an announcement on that when things are all put in place.” But have Arsenal already made him an offer?
